Even though the traditional auto show events worldwide have been on an effective hold since the onset of COVID, that hasn’t stopped carmakers from bringing new cars to market or even sharing a special reveal. To that end, and with the car about to arrive in a few months, Audi chose to enjoy an American public reveal of its RS e-tron GT at Malibu Cars and Coffee.
Last Sunday April 25, a production example of the RS e-tron GT enjoyed its coming out party at the weekly car enthusiasts’ gathering at Malibu Cars and Coffee held at Malibu Kitchen.
Given this is Malibu, at the intersection of California’s car and entertainment culture, it’s not surprising that several notable attendees are both celebrity and also avid car enthusiasts. A major booster of Malibu Cars and Coffee is writer and actor Spike Feresten. Spike’s written for television series like Seinfeld and has hosted shows like Car Matchmaker, though is most recently known for his Spike’s Cars & Coffee podcast. A recent addition to that podcast is Motor Trend personality Johnny Lieberman who also made an appearance. Finally, a car event in SoCal wouldn’t be a car event in SoCal without former Tonight Show host Jay Leno. Leno’s a consummate car guy and nowadays hosts his own car-themed show Jay Leno’s Garage.
Back to the e-tron GT, it is the first Audi to spawn from the Volkswagen Group’s J1 electric car architecture. Shared with Porsche and its Taycan product range, the e-tron GT takes Audi’s e-tron electric car lineup one step further, filling out the top and most sporting part of the range with this handsome GT four-door.
Both versions of the e-tron GT are expected to begin arriving this summer. Special thanks to Denis Podmarkov for attending the event and capturing these photos for our coverage.
