Hot Wheels Adds Audi R8 LMS in Retro Livery

Heads up if you’re headed out to Target or the like, Hot Wheels is actively adding more Audi designs to its lineup. The most recent offering, part of the EuroSpeed collection is this Audi R8 LMS (Mk2) in a retro Audi Sport livery similar but not identical to one of the Audi R8 LMS GT4 entries to the IMSA Continental Tires race on Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona weekend.

Unlike the Audi RS 6 Avant we’ve only found online, or the upcoming Sport quattro we spied posted by Hot Wheels on Instagram, we managed to find this R8 LMS in person at the local Target. Obviously we bought it, and our hope is that you can too if they still remain on the shelves of a store near you.

As mentioned, the R8 LMS is part of a small multi-car collection that Hot Wheels has been offering as of late. This mix, dubbed EuroSpeed also includes an Alfa Romeo Guilia Sprint GTA, a BMW M1 Procar, a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 and a Porsche 993 GT2.

For Hot Wheels nerds, these are the step up versions. They include details such as metal bases and rubber tires. Not surprisingly, they’re a tad more expensive than your run-of-the-mill Hot Wheels offerings. We paid just shy of $5 for this example… not cheap, but no doubt much better priced than you’ll find on sites like Amazon or Ebay where brick and mortar store poachers mark them as a price for convenience.

Back to the R8 LMS, the name and appearance of body mods suggest it’s a GT3 spec car. Audi displayed a similar car last year at The Quail, a Motorsport Gathering during Monterey Car Week. That car was never raced, but a similarly striped version was campaigned by the all-female #DriveProgress effort fielded by GMG and backed by Audi in Daytona last January. That particular car was driven by Ashley Freiberg and Gosia Rdest.
