Audi Confirms Q9 Launch for 2026, Enters Full-Size SUV Market

In early August we shared the latest spy photos of what appeared to be the Audi Q9 test mule. We still don’t know a lot of specifics about Q9, other than it will be the largest SUV in the Audi lineup. But a recent report from Motor1 shares the information that Audi has confirmed the launch of the new Q9 model in 2026, alongside the all-new Audi Q7.
The confirmation of the Audi Q9 launch comes from Audi’s development boss, Geoffrey Bouquot. Bouquot recently told Automobilwoche that the Q9 will arrive next year alongside a new Q7. There are not yet a lot of technical details released regarding these models. However, they are both expected to share the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) that also underpins the newest A5, Q5, and A6.
So, even though Audi is still committing to EVs such as the new Concept C, they will be introducing new combustion models as well. And the Q9 will be the largest combustion model in the lineup. The full-size SUV will be aimed at the likes of the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS and Cadillac Escalade. It will be Audi’s first foray into the full-size luxury SUV market.
Each of those competitive models from BMW, Mercedes and Cadillac also offers a high-performance variant. So, it is likely that we will also get an Audi S9 at some point. What remains an open question is whether we will get an RS Q9 to sit at the top of the Audi SUV food chain.
The Audi Q7 will also get a much-needed new generation in 2026. The current generation Q7 has been on sale for about a decade. The next generation Q7 will feature refreshed styling, revised 2.0L and 3.0L engine options, and an updated 4.0L V8 for the SQ7.
2026 is not very far away so we should be getting all the details about the new Audi Q7 and Q9 models very soon. We will be sure to keep you posted.
