On August 17, 2023, Legends of the Autobahn returned once again to Pacific Grove Golf links. This event is undoubtedly a must-see for any German-car enthusiast attending Monterey Car Week. As a collaboration between Audi Club North America, BMW Car Club of America, and Mercedes Benz Car Club, Legends of the Autobahn showcases hundreds of German-made cars, their enthusiast owners, and attracts exponentially more spectators every year.

At this year’s event, Audi of America partnered with Audi Club, celebrating what would soon be a fond farewell to the beloved Audi R8 and highlighting the exciting future of electrification. Audi of America displayed two Audi R8s, complete in custom livery, a design choice which pays tribute to both this model’s motorsport origins and the brand’s super-car consumer offering. Flanking the opposite side of Audi Club’s tent were Audi’s e-tron offerings including the RS e-tron GT.

If the R8s weren’t exciting enough, Audi’s guests included “Mr. Le Mans” himself, Tom Kirstensen, and Frank Lamberty, the designer of the original R8. If you didn’t already know, Tom’s reputation includes winning the 24 hours of Le Mans nine times, six of which were in an Audi. He holds the record for most first place finishes in this legendary race. Event attendees and Audi fans alike had the exciting opportunity to meet both of these legends and get their autographs.

Audi Club’s participation in Legends of the Autobahn was made possible by the tireless and generous contributions of Audi Club Golden Gate Chapter’s volunteers, Denis Podmarkov for his photography, and our generous event sponsors, Audi of America, 034 Motorsport, and Bring A Trailer.
