Audi Q9 Spied Testing in Spain

Something big is coming from Audi. That something is what will become the largest SUV in the Audi lineup, the Q9. The debut of the new Q9 model is still about a year away, but testing is well underway. This isn’t the first time the Q9 has been spotted in the wild. This time we see it undergoing further testing in Spain.

The Audi Q9 is expected to do battle with the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS and Cadillac Escalade. The full-size luxury SUV market is a lucrative one in the U.S. Of the 16 models that BMW offers for sale in America, the X7 was the fourth best-seller in Q2 2025. The Escalade is the number one selling Cadillac model and it isn’t even close. Audi would love to grab some of those sales.

Despite Audi’s focus on all-electric vehicles, the new Q9 is expected to ride on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). Combustion being the key word here. We don’t yet know the specific powertrain options that will be offered, but there could be a regular combustion engine as well as a plug-in hybrid variant. There may even be a diesel version.
