Spy Photo: Audi Horch A8L

Wait…did you just say Horch?

The rumor that Audi will bring back the Horch name plate for an ultra-luxurious car to fight against the Mercedes Maybach has been swirling around for some years now and back in 2019, Audi confirmed the plans. Well to be honest, they did just confirm the car not the Horch name.

But with Mercedes using Maybach for its luxury version of the S-Class, it makes sense for Audi to resurrect the Horch name for the best ever A8.

So what do we see here on these spy photos from the cold? We can see a facelifted version of the Audi A8L, the long-wheel-base version of the Audi A8. Audi didn’t reveal the timetable for that new model but the upcoming facelift for the A8 range could very well be what they have been waiting for. And the reason why we think this could be the Horch? The fact that we see some camouflage at the rear side window…an area where there most likely is a badge hidden under that camouflage. Maybe that badge says H with the name Horch on top.

We have seen several other Audi A8 facelift prototypes and none of them had any kind of camouflage in that area. And the fact that this is the LWB version makes even more suitable for the luxurious Horch version.

Underneath the hood, the VW Group’s twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 will drive the quattro all-wheel-drive system and should have around 600 horsepower.

Don’t just expect a more luxurious interior but also some special designed wheels and possible a two-tone paint when it’s time for a debut in the second half of this year.
