Natural Habitat: Porsche 911 GT3 RS Spied Testing at the Nürburgring  

The current Porsche 911 GT3 RS is already one of the fastest production cars to lap the Nürburgring. So, it stands to reason that the next-generation GT3 RS is spied testing at the famous racetrack. These latest images give us our best look yet at the track focused supercar.

While most of the Porsche 911 range has moved to turbocharging and even hybrid technology the GT3 RS retains a glorious naturally aspirated 4.0L flat six engine. Will that remain the case with the next generation? That is the million-dollar question.

The GT3 RS is all about lap times. That is why there is no manual transmission option for the car. The brilliant PDK automatic is faster so that is what the car gets. And Porsche could no doubt extract more power from the next GT3 RS if they attach some turbos to the flat six engine. More power would likely result in quicker lap times. But at the same time, turbochargers would fundamentally change the character of the car.

If you look closely at the rear of this test mule above the license plate and under the light bar there is a black camouflage pattern running from left to right. This could be nothing, or it could conceal a ventilation grille to provide additional cooling for a potential turbocharged engine.

Knowing Porsche, they will manage to make the new GT3 RS faster than the current model even if it makes the same or just a fraction more power. They always seem to have some lap time reducing magic up their sleeve. The only question now is how much faster the new car will be and how will it get there?
