Design Focus: William Almkvist & His Heritage F1 Livery Concept

Even though Audi F1 won’t officially hit the track until the 2026 season[CM1] , the progress going on over at Sauber to prepare for the changeover. As momentum builds, imagining how an Audi F1 racecar will look is becoming a more and more popular consideration. Take for example this heritage-focused livery experiment by William Almkvist.

Almkvist is a 21-year-old graphic designer and visualization artist from Sweden. He’s got a background in graphic design and a passion for motorsport, specializing in creating striking visual concepts. His work portfolio already includes work for the likes of racing teams[CM2]  and other industries.

In this case, inspiration for an F1 livery comes from the iconic Audi 90 IMSA GTO. It incorporates the bold stripes and color palette from the GTO. Of the overall look, William comments, “The design elegantly balances nostalgia with innovation, ensuring that it stands out on the modern Formula 1 grid.”

Though Audi may be new to F1, it’s an old hat at dominating motorsport series and classes in which it enters. Almkvist represents that by blending the classic motorsport design with a contemporary twist in order to draw a thematic line from Audi’s tradition into the future with an attitude. Clearly, these detailed renderings reflect his approach, not to mention a keen eye for detail.
