Audi’s U.S. Sales Plunge 30 Percent in Q1, but a Massive New Product Wave is Coming

Audi of America has reported their first quarter sales figures for 2026. Overall, new vehicle deliveries are down 30 percent compared to the first quarter of 2025. Audi delivered 29,886 new vehicles compared to 42,710 for the same period last year. However, there is reason for optimism as a massive wave of new products begin to ramp up this year.
There is no way to sugarcoat a 30 percent drop in sales. That is a rough quarter no matter how you slice it. Audi blamed overall market conditions as well as U.S. tariffs for the sharp decline. Nearly every model saw sales decrease. Q8 sales dropped by 25 percent, Q7 sales by 30 percent. The top-selling Q5, which accounted for over one third of all sales, dropped by 26 percent.
Reason for Hope
As bleak as those numbers are, the A5 and A6 sales increased by 6 and 9 percent respectively. That is encouraging as those are some of the freshest models in the Audi lineup. A3 sales also saw a modest 1 percent increase.
Audi is in the midst of their largest product refresh in history and that is why we can’t be too discouraged by these Q1 numbers. Production of the all-new Q3 is just ramping up so we hope to see more deliveries of that model as we move through 2026. In addition, we expect to see an all-new Q7 model soon. And there will also be the all-new flagship SUV, the Q9. Beyond that there is the Audi Concept C that should bring some excitement back to the brand.
Speaking of excitement, the new RS 5 is sure to be a hit. It will not be a volume seller like the Q5 or Q3, but it has already gotten people talking about Audi again. The first quarter of this year was tough, but we can see a path for Audi pulling out of this. And that path is full of desirable, fresh product that should appeal to Audi enthusiasts and the general car-buying public as well.
