Audi of America is getting a new marketing leader, and she already has a clear mandate. Effective August 1, Esther Francis will serve as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Brand Marketing & Communications, taking responsibility for the brand’s marketing strategy and external communications in the United States.

Francis arrives with an impressive resume. She brings more than 27 years of marketing and communications experience, including 19 years within the Volkswagen Group. Most recently, she served as Head of Brand Communication, Content Marketing & Collaborations at AUDI AG in Germany, where she oversaw global brand communication initiatives across both traditional and digital channels.

Her experience extends well beyond Germany. Francis previously led marketing efforts for FAW Audi in China, one of Audi’s most important global markets, where she helped develop annual marketing strategies designed to grow both sales and brand recognition. Earlier roles included leadership positions with Volkswagen Passenger Cars in China and Audi South Africa, where she helped reposition the brand and launch several high-profile products.

Audi of America President Vito Paladino believes that global experience will be critical as the brand works to strengthen its presence in the U.S. “Now is the time to reignite our brand and remind consumers what makes Audi, Audi,” Paladino said in announcing the appointment. “Esther’s extensive global experience, paired with her strategic vision and people-first leadership style, makes her an exceptional fit.”

That statement may be the most interesting part of the announcement. Rather than simply focusing on new products or sales targets, Audi is emphasizing the need to reconnect consumers with the brand’s identity. As Audi prepares to launch a new generation of vehicles, including expanded electric offerings, updated performance models, and next-generation technology, the company clearly sees marketing as playing a central role in telling that story.

For Audi enthusiasts, Francis’ appointment represents more than an executive shuffle. It signals that Audi of America wants to sharpen its message and reinforce the qualities that have long defined the four rings. The products may grab the headlines, but how Audi tells its story could be just as important in shaping the brand’s future in one of its most competitive markets.
