Audi is doubling down on China and doing it in a big way. The German brand has announced a deeper strategic partnership with SAIC Motor, aimed at accelerating development of next-generation electric and connected vehicles tailored specifically for the Chinese market.
At the heart of this expanded collaboration is a new AUDI Innovation & Technology Center in Shanghai. Led by Audi AG, the facility will focus on the full development cycle of future models, from research and engineering to intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) technologies. The goal is clear: build smarter, more advanced EVs designed around the expectations of Chinese buyers, with a heavy emphasis on AI-powered cabins and next-gen driver assistance systems.

This move builds on the momentum of Audi’s newer China-focused sub-brand, AUDI, which launched in 2024 under the “Best of Both Worlds” philosophy, combining German engineering with local innovation. The first model, the AUDI E5 Sportback, arrived in 2025, and the lineup is set to grow quickly. Next up is the AUDI E7X, making its debut at Auto China 2026, followed by a third model in 2027.
Looking ahead, Audi and SAIC plan to co-develop four all-new models based on the Advanced Digitized Platform (ADP), a next-generation architecture designed specifically for intelligent EVs. These vehicles will expand Audi’s footprint in China while complementing its global lineup.

For Audi, this isn’t just another partnership, it’s a critical piece of its long-term strategy. As the industry shifts toward electrification and software-defined vehicles, China remains the world’s most important EV market. By investing heavily in local development and technology, Audi is positioning itself to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving landscape.
