We have seen the spy photos and heard the rumors, but now we have the formal announcement. Audi will unveil the new A2 e-tron in fall 2026, complementing its portfolio with an all-electric entry-level model family in the compact class.

Audi is taking another major step toward an electric future with the announcement of the new Audi A2 e-tron, a compact electric model family designed to make EV ownership more accessible. The announcement came during the company’s Annual Media Conference, where CEO Gernot Döllner outlined Audi’s strategy for expanding its electric lineup.

According to Döllner, the A2 e-tron is designed around what modern drivers want from an EV: efficiency, practicality, and strong everyday usability. He emphasized that Audi has been listening to customers who want electric vehicles that work seamlessly in daily life. The A2 e-tron aims to deliver exactly that by offering a compact design, strong efficiency, and the digital connectivity expected from a modern premium vehicle.

The new model will play a key role in Audi’s strategy for the growing compact electric vehicle segment. Demand for smaller EVs continues to rise, especially in large European cities where efficiency, sustainability, and maneuverability are increasingly important. Audi hopes the A2 e-tron will attract a broad international audience, particularly younger buyers looking for a premium EV that fits urban lifestyles.

The name itself is a nod to the original Audi A2, a groundbreaking compact car introduced more than 25 years ago that focused heavily on efficiency and lightweight design. With the A2 e-tron, Audi is reviving that philosophy for the electric era.

Production of the new electric model family will take place in Ingolstadt, Germany, the historic home of Audi’s manufacturing operations. Building the A2 e-tron there underscores the company’s commitment to transforming its German factories for the electric age while securing local jobs and maintaining high production standards.

The A2 e-tron is also part of Audi’s broader product push. After launching more than 20 new models in 2024 and 2025, the brand now boasts one of the youngest lineups in the premium automotive market.

Looking ahead, Audi plans to continue expanding its range with two key models: the flagship Audi Q9 at the top of the lineup and the compact A2 e-tron as a new entry point into the brand’s electric future. Here in the U.S., we expect the Q9 model but not the new A2.
