Wheatley: Hulkenberg Beating Red Bull No. 2s Is a Shock

Racingnews365.com reports that Sauber Team Principal Jonathan Wheatley can’t believe that Sauber F1 driver Nico Hülkenberg has dominated Red Bull’s second drivers over the last several races. With his first-ever podium finish coming at Silverstone, Hülkenberg now has 31 championship points over in his last 4 races. Red Bull’s second drivers this season, Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, have combined for only 7 points. Go back even further and the story is the same. Over the last 22 races Red Bull number two drivers have scored only 28 points. This bodes well for the Sauber team that will become Audi F1 in 2026.

Speaking in an interview with Racingnews365.com Wheatley expressed his amazement at this accomplishment given how talented the Red Bull team is. “I would never have believed it possible. I know the quality of that operation. I know the talent of the people who are there,” he said.

This recent success is exciting for fans eagerly awaiting the debut of the Audi F1 team next year. Wheatley is also excited and believes the team is heading into the right direction. “My feeling is the ship’s turning, and we’re starting to point the right way,” said Wheatley. With 12 more races to go in the current F1 season, there is plenty of time to build on the early success.
