Updated Audi Q4 e-tron Better Equipped to Battle Rival Tesla Model Y

A couple of months ago we shared some spy shots of the upcoming Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback. And now the spy photo crew at Carscoops snagged some images of the standard Q4 e-tron that will have the same design and technology upgrades as the Sportback. The refresh may help Audi grab some market share from struggling Tesla.   

The Q4 e-tron is the second-best selling EV in the Audi lineup, behind the larger Q6 e-tron. That makes the Q4 e-tron a very important model in the Audi portfolio. So, with first half 2025 sales of that model in the U.S. down 40 percent compared to the first half of 2024 there is an obvious concern. But rival Tesla is also experiencing a challenge with the Model Y sales down 15 percent in the U.S. so far this year. An updated Q4 e-tron could help Audi gain ground here.

Updated Q4 e-tron

If there is any weakening of Tesla’s hold on the EV market, Audi should try to charge through it with the aggression of a Sport Quattro S1 racing up Pikes Peak. And the new Q4 e-tron could help with that. Exterior enhancements are expected to be minimal. Updates to the lights, bumpers and grille will pretty much be it. But the technological upgrades are what will matter.

The new dual screen setup is expected to have a 14.5-inch central touchscreen and a 10-inch digital driver display, housed in a curved panel. Many controls will be consolidated into this new setup. It will give the car a more modern and streamlined feel.

There has been no confirmed announcement regarding any power upgrades. Although it is possible that a new 79kWh battery could be on offer in the new model. We expect the updated model to debut later this year, with sales beginning before 2026. We will keep you posted with all the latest updates.
