The 104th Running of the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb: An Audi Preview

The late American racing icon, Bobby Unser, once said, “Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.”  This is of the upmost importance when racing to the summit of Pikes Peak, where the margin for error is as thin as the Rocky Mountain air. This year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb includes a diverse field of drivers, all of whom have undoubtedly gone to great lengths to prepare for their ascent to the clouds. With Audi’s successful motorsport history at Pikes Peak, it’s not a surprise that the fandom of Audi is and will continue to be one of the strongest present at this race. Of this year’s 75 entries, seven competitors will race an Audi to the summit. These models range from a vintage S1 tribute and Audi 4000 to modern RS 3s and TTs.

This year’s Hillclimb will also celebrate the 250th Birthday of America, the 150th of Colorado, in addition to the 40th anniversary of Bobby Unser’s win driving for Audi at the legendary race. Pikes Peak has always been a race that celebrates the American spirit for competitiveness, at intersection of grit, determination and innovation. With the global recognition this race has, it’s no wonder that teams and drivers from 11 countries will commit time and resources to race along the 12.42-mile course, to the summit of Pikes Peak.

For Audi Club, this is also a monumental race because one of our own club members and long-time chapter volunteers, Rob Wilmoth, is competing as a rookie in the Time Attack 1 division. We look forward to cheering him on and sharing his Audi Club and motorsport story with you in upcoming publications. Stay tuned to Audi Club’s weekly news, social media and the Q4 issue of quattro, for additional coverage of this year’s 104th running of the Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Meet the 2026 Audi Competitors:

Alex Kim

Alex Kim – 1987 Audi S1 Pikes Peak Tribute (Second Year, Holladay, UT) | @thisautotour

Realizing a childhood dream, Alex had the honor of competing in last year’s race with his Michele Mouton tribute Audi S1 E2. This year, he’ll be climbing another unique S1 built by Group B Garage in Poland. Paying homage to these special rally cars has allowed Alex to connect with other Audi enthusiasts around the country. This year, his team will apply lessons learned from their inaugural 2025 climb.

Ghimbos

Chistian Ghimbos – 2012 Audi TT RS (Second Year, Magnolia, Texas) | @acg_racing

Campaigning his TT RS under the ACG Racing banner in 2025, German-born Ghimbos is back to contend against the field in the Open class once again. Ghimbos has had tracking experiences through stage rallies in Europe in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Two years ago, he scored the Touring 1 title in the US Majors Southern Conference. This year, he will be running a stock frame TT RS and is eager to apply past knowledge to the Open class competition.

David Hackl

David Hackl – 1983 Audi Quattro (13th Year, Grand Lake, CO) | @gruppeq

David competed in the shortened course last year, and his 1983 2.5L Turbo continues to be one of the most well-recognized participants in the field. As a veteran of Pikes Peak, he carries a repertoire of knowledge and advice for new-comers to the mountain, however, he leads a philosophy of ‘‘Drive the road you know“, passing along this mantra onto many others in years since.

Tenge

Josh Tenge- 2012 Audi TT RS (Second Year, Larkspur, CO) | @joshtenge

His TT RS with the bold color scheme is both fast and eye-catching. Tackling the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb as a newcomer last year was more than just crossing the finish line. Josh learned it was not just about speed or placement; this experience was the reward for years of chasing adrenaline across frozen lakes, mountain roads and racetracks—and the start of another chapter in a journey that has always been about much more than just going fast.

Matus Huska

Matus Huska – 2010 Audi TTS (Fifth Year, Parker, CO) | @huskamatus

Matus’s best finish at Pikes Peak was 6th place in the Open class in 2024. Since his first race in the 2022 Time Attack 1 division, he admits, “The biggest thing is you never practice the whole course in one run. You have to put the sections together in your head and line it all up.” Having immigrated from Slovakia, Matus acknowledges his racing career as a dream come true and that his friends and family are his best good luck charms. Matus is also a recipient of Kuhmo Tire USA’s in inaugural Gaining Traction Program – a reservation for Colorado residents who have at least five years of competitive racing experience.

Trevor Aweida

Trevor Aweida – 1984 Audi 4000 (5th Year, Boulder, CO) | @trevoraweida

The Colorado-based father and son duo, Dan and Trevor, are gearing up to take on the Race to the Clouds once again. A bass-guitarist and skier, Trevor is also a life-long learner, taking mentorship from his father and fellow competitor Dan Aweida. His favorite part of the climb is Ragged Edge and says, “Pikes Peak is incomparable to any other kind of racing available…”

Rob Wilmoth
