Spy Photo: Cupra Formentor VZ

Wait…what is a Cupra doing on an Audi-centric website? Cupra is the high performance subsidiary of the Spanish automobile manufacturer SEAT, itself a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Group (which owns Audi). So once again, what is a Cupra doing on an Audi-centric website?

5-cylinders…that’s why this Cupra Formentor VZ in on our site. Cupra is winter testing the 400hp Formentor VZ as you can see in these photos. The Formentor VZ will get the turbocharged 5-cylinder found in the Audi RS Q3. Power will go to all four wheels via a 7-speed DSG. Some rumors say that the Cupra version will have to do with slightly less power, a demand from Audi.

Rumors has it that the five-cylinder Formentor will get the VZ moniker, a name that only the hottest models from Cupra will wear.

Even if this prototype is camouflaged both at the front and rear we really can’t find any visible changes as for now except for the diagonally stacked exhaust pipes and the lovely sound of that five-cylinder engine. Expect a more aggressive front bumper, maybe a larger wing at the back and a more pronounced diffusor between the exhaust pipes when its time for the debut.
