Robert Downey Jr. to Star in Car-Themed Series on Max

Robert Downey Jr.’s association with the Audi brand is notable. As Tony Stark in the Marvel franchise, he’s been a regular Audi driver, and also known to roll up to those same film debuts driving an Audi of some sort. He made a guest appearance at the Los Angeles debut of the e-tron GT concept, and is a known car enthusiast and it is also believed he has a few four ringers in his collection.

One of the actor’s latest projects for Max is dubbed Downey’s Dream Cars, and it’s an original docuseries that debuts on the Max streaming platform on June 22. Two new episodes will debut each Thursday leading up to the final two episodes on July 6.

Will Audi play a part? That’s unclear at this time. Footage of him with Audi cars at PR events and debuts is seen in the trailer (below), but the synopsis suggests more of a focus on older cars. Max provides short description as, “Robert Downey Jr. loves restoring classic cars. But he’s also become dedicated to fighting climate change. So he’s bringing his beloved old cars into the future, making them faster, and more efficient while keeping their souls intact.”

A comment from Downey was also provided by Max. In it, the actor states, “We are what we drive, and having amassed a formidable collection of classic cars over the years, I was a petrol spewing mess. And a hypocrite, as I’d founded the Footprint Coalition in 2019 to scale technologies that mitigate climate change. Fortunately, I’m a bit of a dreamer. The last three years have been an experiment in hope, as I engaged the best and brightest minds to evaluate, educate, elevate and decarbonize these vehicles in a way that demonstrates the limitless potential of creative problem solving. It was a huge challenge and an enlightening journey. It’s also fun to watch, and for that, I must credit my kids, my wife and boss Susan, Team Downey, Boat Rocker’s Matador Content, and of course, Max and Warner Bros. Discovery. Thanks for supporting what, at times, seemed a blurry vision, but ultimately confirmed the myriad ways we can join hands and create a sustainable future.
