Porsche Boxster EV Test Mule Spied Again

As we continue to catch glimpses of the upcoming electric Porsche Boxster replacement, we get even more interested. Beyond its expected real-deal sportscar status despite being an EV given it’s a Porsche, there are also the rumors that this car’s underpinnings could also spawn a sports EV model from Audi.

So far in the EV world, electric cars tend to be heavy sensible things such as crossovers or luxury sedans. Granted, their 0-60 mph times have commoditized 0-60 times, but they’re still heavy and there’s only so much mass that can be engineered out with smart engineering. At the end of the day, a smaller and hopefully lighter car is more appealing to car enthusiasts, while a sportscar over say a family crossover is the icing on the cake.

If you’re anti-EV then you can probably stop reading because there is no doubt that this car is all electric. Even still, we believe it marks the evolution of the EV genre and embraces a tradition begun with the original Tesla Roadster, one that appeals to driving enthusiasts EV or not.

Time will tell, but the idea of a sporting Audi returning to the lineup following the retirement of the TT, R8 and imminent retirement of the A5/S5/RS 5 Coupes and convertibles has us chomping at the bit for a return of Audi sportscars to the lineup.

Rumors around the Audi that could see use of this platform point to a modern TT or perhaps a coupe with a nod to the original quattro. Whatever the case, our interest is piqued.
