New Spy Photos Reveal the Audi RS Q5’s True Face
The first-ever Audi RS Q5 is getting closer to becoming a reality. It started with a trademark filing, then we spotted a test mule at the Nürburgring. Now we have captured the RS Q5 in the Austrian Alps. And this time it appears to be wearing the new RS Q5 front end.
Although camouflage still covers much of the bodywork, several familiar RS design cues are becoming easier to spot. The larger front air intakes, more aggressive lower bumper design, and wider stance all hint at the performance hiding underneath. As with previous RS models, expect the production version to receive unique styling elements that clearly separate it from the standard Q5 and SQ5.
While Audi hasn’t confirmed final specifications, the new RS Q5 is expected to use a plug-in hybrid powertrain built around the 2.9L twin-turbocharged V6. Horsepower is expected to be well north of 600. Combined with quattro all-wheel drive and the sharper dynamics Audi Sport is known for, it promises to become one of the most capable performance SUVs in its segment.
With prototypes now testing on both the Nürburgring and public roads through the Austrian Alps, it’s clear development is progressing rapidly. If these latest images are any indication, Audi enthusiasts won’t have to wait much longer before the covers come off one of Audi Sport’s most exciting upcoming models.
