Long Wheelbase Audi A7 L Spied in Germany

If you’re familiar with Chinese customer trends in the car market, you know they have a soft spot for rear legroom. Plenty of cars are sold in the People’s Republic with an extended wheelbase, including models such as the A4L and A6L sedans. The flagship A8 is sold locally exclusively in the stretched form, and there are even Q2L and Q5L models serving as roomier derivatives of the two SUVs. And now its time for yet another model in the Audi line-up.

The long wheelbase Audi A7 L will only be sold in China and will be built by SAIC-VW in Shanghai.

Based on the MLB Evo platform, the Audi A7 L is the first China-made car that will use this platform. The Audi A6 L and the related Volkswagen Phideon are based on the older MLB platform. We can also see that not only is the wheelbase longer but also that the usual Sportback design on the A7 has been changed to a sedan, that’s because sedans are more popular in China.

The Audi A7 L will be powered by various variants of the 2.0 TSI, ranging from the 190 hp version to 245 hp.

Expect a debut for the Audi A7 L in China the first half of 2021.
