How Audi’s TFSI Technology Balances Power and Efficiency

Audi continues to lead in combining performance with efficiency, thanks to its advanced TFSI (Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection) system. This technology allows smaller turbocharged engines to deliver power levels that rival much larger naturally aspirated units, while still maintaining impressive fuel economy.

Take the Audi A3 as an example. Its 40 TFSI four-cylinder engine produces 201 horsepower and still achieves up to 34 mpg on the highway, even with Quattro all-wheel drive. TFSI works by precisely injecting fuel directly into the combustion chamber at optimal times, maximizing both performance and efficiency.

While direct fuel injection has been around for decades, Audi’s implementation in TFSI engines represents a refined and reliable evolution. Now standard across nearly the entire Audi lineup, including hybrid models, TFSI is one of the many ways Audi stays at the forefront of engine technology, leaving carburetors firmly in the past.
