Lippstadt, Germany – The internationally positioned automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA has developed a completely new headlight concept for the Q6 e-tron in cooperation with the German premium manufacturer Audi. Its special feature: The front lighting not only realizes adaptive lighting functions such as glare-free high beam. Above all, it has a digital daytime running light matrix, with which end users have the opportunity to select the preferred digital light signature of the daytime running lights from up to eight preset designs. The appearance of the matrix LED headlights can thus be personalized to a large extent.

“Audi and FORVIA HELLA are breaking new ground with the headlight concept for the Q6 e-tron. LED lighting signatures have long been indispensable for the characteristic, emotional design language of vehicles,” says Yves Andres, who is responsible for the global lighting business at FORVIA HELLA as a member of the management board. “With the concept that we have brought into series production together with Audi for the Q6 e-tron, we are now opening up new degrees of freedom for end users to help shape the appearance of the vehicle front.”

For the front lighting of the Q6 e-tron, FORVIA HELLA has developed a headlight concept, which visually divides the light elements into two areas by designing the body. Thus, the lower area is primarily responsible for “vision”: Matrix LED headlights made of 14 LEDs realize the glare-free high beam, i.e. driving with permanently switched on high beam, without dazzling oncoming traffic. The upper element, on the other hand, shows the “being seen”, the digital daytime running lights with the associated design and individualization functions. A digital daytime running light matrix from 61 individually switchable segments is installed here per headlight, which create the customizable digital light signature of the Audi Q6 e-tron.

The manufacturer-designed daytime running light designs, which also include specially tuned Coming Home/Leaving Home stagings, can be selected by end users depending on their own preferences, software-based via an app or via the multi-media interface (MMI) of the all-electric SUV.

The Matrix LED headlights are produced in the Czech Republic, a local variant for the Chinese market is also manufactured on site in China. Series development takes place in Germany and the Czech Republic.
