Find of the Day: This 300,000-Mile Audi S6 Avant Wants to Be an RS2

When you want an Audi RS2 but you don’t want to pay Audi RS2 prices, this modified S6 Avant is your answer. At first glance, this 1995 Audi S6 Avant looks like a clean, tastefully modified tribute to Audi’s legendary RS2. Dig a little deeper, however, and you’ll discover something even more impressive than the long list of performance upgrades. The odometer reads nearly 300,000 miles. For most cars, 300,000 miles is the end of the story. For Audi’s legendary AAN turbocharged inline-five, it’s just another milestone.

Currently up for auction with no reserve on Cars & Bids, this S6 Avant has been transformed into something remarkably close to an RS2. Under the hood is the familiar 2.2-liter turbocharged five-cylinder that enthusiasts have been praising for decades. Rather than simply maintaining the engine, the owner has thoughtfully upgraded it with a Wagner Tuning RS2 exhaust manifold, ARP head studs, a multi-layer steel head gasket, silicone coolant hoses, an MTM Stage 1+ ECU chip, and numerous other supporting modifications. The result is a wagon that makes a dyno proven 238 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.

The suspension and braking systems have received equal attention. Porsche 993 front brakes provide significantly more stopping power, while coilovers featuring Koni dampers and Eibach springs promise sharper handling without sacrificing the practicality that made the S6 Avant such a beloved all-weather performance car. It rides on attractive 18-inch wheels and retains the understated appearance that has always defined Audi’s best sleepers.

Of course, the biggest selling point may be that odometer. Many buyers see 300,000 miles as a reason to walk away. Audi enthusiasts are more likely to see it as proof that the AAN engine was built to last. An engine doesn’t accumulate that kind of mileage without exceptional engineering and diligent maintenance. In many ways, the mileage tells you more about this wagon than the modifications ever could. It has been driven, enjoyed, and cared for rather than hidden away in a climate-controlled garage.
