Find of the Day: Someone Decided the Audi RS 4’s V-8 Needed More Power

Supercharged 2007 Audi RS4

There are few engines in Audi’s history more beloved than the naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V-8 found in the B7 RS 4. With 420 horsepower, an 8,250-rpm redline, and a soundtrack that could make grown adults giggle, it was already something special. Pair that engine with quattro all-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission, and you have the ingredients for one of the greatest sports sedans Audi ever built. But apparently, 420 horsepower wasn’t enough for the previous owner of this particular RS 4.

Currently listed on Bring a Trailer, this 2007 Audi RS 4 takes an already impressive performance sedan and turns the excitement up several notches. The biggest modification is an APR Stage III+ supercharger system fitted to the 4.2-liter V-8. The listing doesn’t establish a verified horsepower figure, but it’s safe to say this isn’t your average RS 4.

More Than Just a Supercharger

The upgrades don’t stop under the hood. This RS 4 also features a Milltek exhaust system, which should make that high-revving V-8 sound even more glorious. And because adding power is only part of the equation, the car has also been fitted with STaSIS coilovers and upgraded Alcon brakes.

It’s an appealing combination. The original RS 4 was already a remarkably capable machine, with a chassis that rewarded enthusiastic driving and a naturally aspirated engine that encouraged you to explore the upper reaches of the tachometer. The supercharger adds another dimension to that experience without sacrificing the appeal of a manual transmission.

Of course, heavily modified performance cars aren’t for everyone. Additional power can mean additional stress on expensive mechanical components, and prospective buyers should carefully review the installation, maintenance history, and condition of the modifications before placing a bid. But for someone who appreciates the B7 RS 4 and wants something considerably more aggressive than a factory example, this car certainly deserves a closer look.

The B7 RS 4 represents an era when Audi was willing to stuff a high-revving V-8 into a relatively compact sedan and let enthusiasts row their own gears. That’s a combination we aren’t likely to see again anytime soon. And while the original 420 horsepower was hardly disappointing, we can’t help appreciating someone who looked at that magnificent engine and thought, “You know what this needs? More power.” Bidding ends on Monday, October 26.
