Find of the Day: Own the B5 Audi S4 Raced by Derek Bell and Randy Pobst

Forget find of the day, this might be the find of the year. Finding a clean B5 Audi S4 is exciting enough these days. Finding one that was built for factory-backed competition and driven by Derek Bell and Randy Pobst is something else entirely. Yet that’s exactly what is currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer.

This 2000 Audi S4 Competition Evolution, chassis ASUK-004, is one of just five examples built by Richard Lloyd and Audi Sport UK for competition in the Speedvision World Challenge GT series. The program followed Audi’s success with the B5 A4 in Super Touring and was intended to strengthen the brand’s racing presence in North America.

Racing History

Five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell drove this particular car during the 2001 and 2002 seasons, even providing in-car commentary for Speedvision’s broadcasts. Among its results were two third-place finishes at Road Atlanta in 2001. The S4 later made a 2003 appearance with Michael Galati before being upgraded to Competition Evolution specification and driven by Randy Pobst for two races in 2004.

Those Evolution upgrades included larger turbochargers, a viscous-coupling center differential, and weight-reduction measures. Today, power comes from a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter APB V6 that was rebuilt in late 2025. It’s paired with a six-speed manual transaxle overhauled with dog-box gears. Adjustable coilovers, Alcon brakes with cockpit-adjustable bias, and 18-inch BBS magnesium wheels complete the serious hardware.

Legends Drove It, and You Could Be Next

Inside, don’t expect heated leather seats or Bose audio. There’s a single Recaro racing seat, roll cage, fire-suppression system, MOMO steering wheel, and MoTeC digital display. The dashboard also carries signatures from Bell, Pobst, and nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen.

Better still, this isn’t a race car that has spent the last two decades collecting dust. Pobst climbed back behind the wheel at the 2024 Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca. The sale also includes spare parts, three sets of wheels, period setup documents, and the removed Cosworth V6, which reportedly needs repair.

For most Audi enthusiasts, owning a B5 S4 is cool. Owning one that Derek Bell and Randy Pobst actually raced is the sort of opportunity that doesn’t come around very often. Bidding ends on Monday, September 21.
