Think of it like high stakes Hot Wheels Treasure Hunts, but we’re always fans of finding special build cars in the distribution system and sharing them with friends in the know. Case in point is this Catalunya Red Audi e-tron found at Audi Wichita in Kansas.
Believe it or not, it’s not an Audi exclusive color. The color, on the orange side of the red spectrum, Catalunya Red harkens the 80s Audi ur quattro rally cars and was popularized most as a launch color on the first-generation Audi RS 3 sedan and early Mk3 TT RS models. It was also a launch color for e-tron, so you’ll find 2019 models painted in the color. So no, it’s not Audi exclusive and yes there are other Catalunya Red e-trons out there. So what makes this one special?
We know this car as an internal headquarters car. It was associated with the after sales division, and was used occasionally to display Audi accessories. So, in addition to the particularly tasteful red on brown color combination, it also got a few subtle additions such as early fitment of black optics (before black optics were available in the USA) and black painted 22-inch SQ7 wheels like we fitted on our own project e-tron. From the photos, it looks like it also got mud flaps and a tow hitch at the very least.
