Find of the Day: 2000 ABT Sportsline Audi TT-R DTM in RM Sotheby’s Münich Sale
Alright, this one’s not your average used rarity that’s popped up on the usual classifieds sites, but if you’re interested in Audi Sport racing history, ABT Sportsline heritage, Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) racing or even have a fixation on the lineage of the TT, then this one’s for you. It’s a DTM-specification Mk1 TT racecar built by ABT for the 2000 season and it’s coming up for sale as part of RM Sotheby’s Münich auction.

The car is one of just four TT-R DTM race cars entered by ABT Sportsline during the 2000 DTM season where it was campaigned by former BTCC champion and 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Laurent Aïello. With the car, Aïello scored points at Oschersleben and both rounds at the Nürburgring and finished as the leading Audi driver in the championship.
The TT-R DTM was rebuilt between 2020 and 2021 and has logged 480 km of testing since that time. It is most ideally suited for vintage racing events including the DTM Classic.

While it doesn’t represent Audi’s most dominant years in the DTM, the TT-R remains a very unique car in Audi racing lore. It was the only specification of the Mk1 TT to race at a high level, given the TT VLN wouldn’t appear until the Mk2 era and the TT Cup racecar wouldn’t appear until Mk3.
