Find of the Day: 1995.5 Audi S6 Avant

words: Bill, photos: Bring A Trailer

In all the excitement from Tuesday on the premiere of the Audi e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT, I totally forgot to publish this. This deserves its own excitement: a C4  S6 Avant and since I fumbled the ball, there’s only about 2 hours left on the auction so without further delay, here’s the ad:

This 1995.5 Audi S6 Avant is one of approximately 500 imported to the US for the model year, and it is powered by a turbocharged 2.2-liter inline-five paired with a five-speed manual transaxle and Torsen center differential. It is finished in pearlescent white over black leather, and modifications include an RS2-specification turbo, upgraded fuel injectors, a front-mount intercooler, Bilstein and Eibach suspension components, 17″ Avus-style wheels, Brembo front brake calipers, tinted tail lights, a Strömung rear muffler, and more as detailed below. The car spent time in New England before relocating to Washington in 2018, and it was acquired by the selling dealer in 2020. Subsequent service included an oil change, a brake fluid flush, and replacement of the windshield, battery, and rear struts and springs. This S6 Avant is now offered with partial service records, owner’s literature, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean New Jersey title.

The selling dealer states that the car was refinished in its factory pearlescent white during prior ownership, and smoked tail light lenses and clear front turn indicator assemblies were added. A new windshield was fitted in September 2020. Equipment includes mesh-style lower front grille, tinted windows, headlight washers, fog lights, satin metal roof rails, a glass sunroof, a rear hatch spoiler, and a Curt trailer hitch receiver mounted below the rear bumper. Close-up pictures of the exterior reveal paint chips on the nose and scuffs on the rear bumper cover.

Avus-style 17″ wheels are mounted with Audi-logo center caps and 245/45 Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires showing 2015 date codes. The suspension is modified with Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs, the rear of which were replaced in August 2020. Brembo calipers are fitted up front, and the brake fluid was flushed in January 2021.

The cabin features heated and power-adjustable front sport seats upholstered in black leather, while charcoal carpets are protected with S6-logo floor mats. A grey Alcantara headliner is fitted, and additional equipment includes burl wood trim accents, cruise control, automatic climate control, and an aftermarket Kenwood CD stereo playing through an aftermarket amplifier, subwoofer, and speakers. The seller notes an area of the left-rear door jamb that has been treated with rust converter.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames white instrument dials with aluminum bezels. The digital odometer shows 196k miles, though actual mileage is unknown. Approximately 500 miles were added by the selling dealer over five months of ownership.

A folding jump seat and retractable car cover are equipped in the rear cargo area. Additional audio equipment is concealed against the inner fenders. Footage of the interior is provided in a linked video here.

The 2.2-liter inline-five sends power to all four wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a Torsen center differential. The crankshaft position sensor was replaced in August 2020 and a new battery was installed in January 2021, an oil change was performed in anticipation of the sale, and modifications include the following:

  • Dual-mass flywheel
  • RS2-specification turbocharger
  • Air-to-air intercooler from 2Bennett Audimotive
  • MRC Tuning RS2-specification Stage 2 software tune
  • Bosch Green Giant 42 lb-hr fuel injectors
  • Audi A4 1.8T coil pack conversion
  • SamcoSport hoses
  • Bosch 044 high-flow fuel pump
  • Street Density transmission mounts

A stainless-steel exhaust with a Strömung rear muffler is fitted. Rust is visible on the underside and suspension components.

The Carfax reports an accident-free history with registration events in Vermont, Massachusetts, Washington, Colorado, and New Jersey through its most recent entry in October 2020. A potential odometer rollback is listed in February 2016.

A few flaws, high mileage, and potential odometer rollback may discourage some but the bidding is up to $12,000 as of this writing. Personally, I think the rearward facing seat and having a manual transmission wagon is worth the price of admission. These are getting few and far between in the States unless you import one from overseas. I’ll never forget my time in a C4 S6 Avant and if you buy this one, you won’t either. You have 2 hours left to bid on this future classic…you can find this ad HERE.
