Electrify America Increases Access to Electric Vehicle Charging with First Station in New Jersey
Bridgewater, NJ (July 17, 2019) – Electrify America, a leader in fast-charging for electric vehicles (EV), today announced that its first ultra-fast charging station in New Jersey is now open. Additionally, the company announced plans to install 10 more charging stations featuring 59 chargers in the state in coming months.
“Providing the necessary infrastructure to support electric vehicles is critical to meeting our goal of registering 330,000 electric vehicles in New Jersey by 2025,” said New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. “Electrify America’s investments dovetail well with the work our Partnership to Plug-In is undertaking, and today’s announcement is a major step forward in making renewable energy solutions more accessible for all New Jerseyans.”
The newly installed station, located at the Target store at 200 Promenade Boulevard in Bridgewater, opened on May 28.
“Bridgewater Township has been a long supporter of electric vehicles. We are thrilled to be the home of Electrify America’s first EV charging stations in New Jersey,” said Daniel J. Hayes, Jr., Mayor, Bridgewater Township. “We recently received two grants from Sustainable Jersey and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to purchase public EV charging stations to install on Township properties. We plan to have them operational by the fall. The opening of these stations at The Promenade is excellent complement to our EV initiative.”
Five more charging sites in the state will be built at:
- Target store located at: 2137 Route 38 (Cherry Hill)
- Walmart stores located at: 290 State Route 18 (East Brunswick), 400 Park Plaza Drive (Secaucus) and 150 Harrison Avenue (Kearny)
- Plaza 23, a Phillips Edison & Company center: 500 Route 23 North (Pompton Plains)
Additional sites will be built in Clifton, Elizabeth, Fairfield, Jersey City and Somerdale.
With these installations, Electrify America is providing electric vehicle drivers in New Jersey more public charging options. Depending on the location, Electrify America’s charging stations range in power from 50 kilowatts (kW) – the most commonly used charging power today – to 150 kW and up to 350kW, which can charge a vehicle at speeds up to 20 miles per minute.

Electrify America is installing a network of ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers across highway and metro charging stations planned in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
NOTE: The Bridgewater Township Environmental Commission will be hosting the 5th annual Electric Ride in partnership with Plug In America at the Municipal Complex on Thursday, September 19th from 6pm-8:30pm. This event takes place during Drive Electric Week and includes, food trucks, live music, and dozens of EVs on display.
