This is big news for Audi. Actually it is mega news. Audi has announced plans to construct its first manufacturing facility in the United States, and the company isn’t starting small. The German automaker intends to invest approximately $4 billion in the Middle Georgia Mega Site. The investment will create roughly 4,500 jobs and establish one of Audi’s largest production facilities anywhere in the world.

The announcement represents a significant milestone for Audi, which has long viewed the United States as an important market but has never established a manufacturing presence here. That will change when construction begins in 2027. Once operational, the facility will have the capacity to produce up to 200,000 vehicles annually. Production is expected to begin in the early 2030s, with the factory concentrating on premium SUVs developed specifically for North American customers.

A Bigger Commitment to America

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner made it clear that the new factory represents more than simply adding another manufacturing facility to the company’s global network. “We have much greater ambitions for Audi in America,” Döllner said. “The United States is one of the world’s most important premium markets, and we have not yet realized our full potential.” Döllner added that Audi intends to strengthen its position through better products, a stronger brand, and a competitive local production base.

The United States is one of the world’s most important premium automotive markets, making it an obvious target for Audi’s expansion plans. Establishing domestic production should also help the company better serve American customers while reducing its dependence on vehicles imported from overseas. Georgia was selected for several reasons, including its skilled workforce, established automotive supplier network, and logistics infrastructure. The state has become an increasingly important hub for automotive manufacturing, and Audi will now join the growing list of automakers investing heavily in the region.

Which Audis Will Be Built in Georgia?

For enthusiasts, perhaps the most interesting question is which vehicles will eventually roll off the new assembly lines. Audi hasn’t announced specific models, only confirming that the factory will focus on premium SUVs tailored to North American buyers. That leaves plenty of room for speculation about which existing or future models might eventually wear a “Made in America” label.

And the Georgia factory might not be the end of Audi’s American expansion. The company says it expects to announce additional U.S. investments as part of its broader growth strategy.

There is still a long wait before the first American-built Audi reaches a dealership. But after decades of importing every vehicle it sells here, Audi is finally preparing to put down some serious manufacturing roots in the United States.

For a brand with ambitions to become a bigger player in the American luxury market, a $4 billion investment is certainly one way to show it means business.
