Audi Takes Over Lake Como With Historic and Future Icons
What do you get when you combine Audis most iconic historic race cars with their latest racing and high-performance machines with stunning Lake Como scenery? You get a pinch-yourself-to-make-sure-you’re-not-dreaming experience. And that is exactly what took place last weekend at the FuoriConcorso KraftMeister and Villa Erba events.
The events are based in Italy, but the focus was German. FuoriConcorso KraftMeister is a tribute to the soul of German craftsmanship. The event is held at Villa Grumello and Villa Sucota, two glamorous estates overlooking Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. You could fill the grounds with rusted Pontiac Azteks, and it would still be a picturesque display.
Of course, the grounds were not filled with old Azteks, they were filled with some of the most renowned Audi models to ever grace the road and track. There was an Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO sitting by the lake looking as beautiful and aggressive as ever. There was also an R15 TDI. Want something newer? Feat your eyes on the R26 Formula 1 car. Are you an EV fan? There was the Audi RS Q e-tron from Dakar fame and an Audi Formula E car. Do you prefer street cars? There as the RS 2 Avant and the brand-new RS 5. Staggering cars in a stunning venue.
Villa Erba was no slouch either. Here Audi brought out some of their classic DTM race cars from the years gone by. Audi V8 quattro DTM race cars from the early 1990s were a couple of the highlights. One look will have your yearning for the DTM racing days of the past.
The Lake Como events of this past weekend showed that the Germans can make objects of speed just as beautiful as the Italians. What an incredible display.
