Audi RS 6 Avant Orders Hit Record Levels Even as it Nears Retirement
[Source: Motor1]
Motor1 first made us aware of a report in the German business newspaper Automobilwoche which states that the Audi RS 6 Avant has set a record for sales in the first half of 2025. On one hand, this is not surprising at all because the RS 6 Avant is an incredible vehicle. On the other hand, it is quite unusual for a model that has been on sale for several years and is about to be replaced to see record sales. So, how can we explain this?
Before we dive into how this happened, we need to understand what exactly happened. According to the report, Audi spokesperson Alina Seysen said that the popularity of the powerful wagon has led to a spike in overall demand at Audi Sport. Through June of this year, order intake for Audi Sport is up by 41 percent compared to the first six months of 2024. All Audi RS models fall under the Audi Sport umbrella.
FOMO
So, why are Audi RS 6 Avant sales so strong so far in 2025? There are a couple of possible reasons. One is the fear of missing out. The current RS 6 Avant is powered by a twin-turbo V8 that makes gobs of power and all the right noises. The next generation RS 6 Avant may very well be even more powerful. However, it is also likely to be a hybrid. Hybrid systems tend to add weight, and some enthusiasts feel that a pure internal combustion engine-powered vehicle is more satisfying to drive. The current RS 6 Avant already has plenty of performance so even if the new car is a couple of ticks quicker to 60 mph, is the trade off to hybrid power worth it?
Powertrain aside, there are folks out there that may not like the interior or exterior design of the new model as much as the current one. Also, how much is the new model going to cost? American buyers have to worry about tariffs on top of everything else. This might be the best opportunity to buy an RS 6 Avant and people don’t want to miss out.
Good News
Record sales for any Audi model is good news. And we know there will be a next-generation RS 6 Avant so that is tremendous news. And folks are realizing now just how impressive the current version is even though it has been on the market for a while. In addition, the more RS 6 Avants sold now means there will be more on the used market at some point for those looking for a bargain super wagon. These are all positives.
We have faith that Audi is going to deliver a stellar next-generation RS 6 Avant, and we can’t wait to see it and to drive it. But in the meantime, we don’t blame anyone even a little bit for grabbing a C8-generation. And it seems that more people than ever are trying to do just that.
