Audi Prepares for High-Stakes Canadian Grand Prix Weekend

The Audi Revolut F1 Team heads to one of the most iconic stops on the Formula One calendar this weekend as the series arrives in Montreal for the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix. The legendary Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is famous for producing dramatic races, punishing mistakes, and keeping drivers inches away from concrete walls throughout the lap. Add in the pressure of a Sprint weekend format, and Audi faces one of its toughest tests of the season so far.
Montreal has long been a favorite among drivers and fans thanks to its unique atmosphere and old-school circuit design. Audi Racing Director Allan McNish knows the team cannot afford another messy weekend after a difficult outing in Miami. McNish admitted the team still has areas that need improvement, particularly when it comes to maximizing performance across an entire race weekend. With Sprint weekends offering only a single practice session before competitive sessions begin, preparation becomes even more important.
“Canada is always an exciting, yet demanding weekend,” McNish explained. “This track doesn’t leave much room for mistakes and it’s important to be sharp from the very first session.”
Putting Together a Complete Weekend
That challenge becomes even greater for a young team still building chemistry and experience together. However, Audi believes the car has more pace than recent results may suggest. The focus now is putting together a clean and consistent weekend from Friday through Sunday.
Veteran driver Nico Hülkenberg is eager to return to Montreal and reset after Miami. Hülkenberg described the Canadian Grand Prix as one of the highlights of the Formula One season thanks to the atmosphere surrounding both the city and the circuit. He emphasized that the team’s biggest goal is delivering a smoother overall performance while adapting quickly to the Sprint weekend format.
F1 Academy
Gabriel Bortoleto shares that optimism. The young Brazilian raced in Montreal previously and understands how important it is to feel comfortable in the car immediately at a circuit where confidence is everything. With walls so close and overtaking opportunities limited, drivers need to attack from the opening laps while avoiding costly mistakes.
Audi will also have another reason to watch closely this weekend as F1 Academy returns for its second round of the season. Audi-backed driver Emma Felbermayr arrives in Canada leading the Drivers’ Standings after an impressive opening round in Shanghai. The young Austrian will face a busy schedule in Montreal with three races across the weekend.
