Audi F1 Scores Points for the Third Straight Race as Hülkenberg Breaks Through

Audi F1 heads into Formula 1’s summer break with plenty of reasons for optimism after Nico Hülkenberg scored his first points of the 2026 season at the Hungarian Grand Prix. His ninth-place finish not only ended a frustrating points drought but also marked the third consecutive race in which the Audi F1 team has finished in the points, highlighting the steady progress the team has made over the past several weeks.

Starting from 10th on the grid, Hülkenberg drove a clean, composed race around the tight and technical Hungaroring. While overtaking opportunities were limited, the experienced German maximized the performance of his car, avoided mistakes, and held position when it mattered most to collect two valuable championship points.

Although ninth place may not grab headlines in the same way as a podium finish, the result represents another encouraging step forward for Audi’s Formula 1 project. After a difficult start to the season, the team has steadily improved its race pace, consistency, and execution. Scoring points in three consecutive Grands Prix suggests those improvements are beginning to translate into meaningful race results.

Hülkenberg’s breakthrough was particularly satisfying given his experience within the team. Finally converting that work into championship points was a fitting reward for both driver and team.

The Hungarian Grand Prix also capped a productive stretch before Formula 1’s annual summer shutdown. During the last three races, Audi has demonstrated that it is increasingly capable of fighting in the midfield rather than simply trying to survive each weekend. Consistent points finishes are often one of the clearest indicators that a team’s development program is moving in the right direction.

The focus now shifts to the second half of the season. Audi hopes to return from the summer break with even greater pace. Team Principal Allan McNish praised the group’s continued progress and emphasized that the recent run of results provides confidence heading into the remaining races of the championship.

For Audi fans, the result in Hungary offers another reason for optimism. Hülkenberg’s two points in Hungary boosted the team total for 12 on the year. That is enough to clear the Williams team and move Audi into eighth place in the Constructor’s Championship. Haas is not too far ahead in seventh place with 21 points for the year.  If the team can continue developing at its current pace, the second half of the season could produce even stronger results as Audi continues its climb up the Formula 1 grid.
