Audi Confirms 2026 RS 5 Debut, Its First Plug‑In Hybrid RS

We knew that 2026 was going to be an exciting year for Audi and it just got a bit spicier. Even if Audi wasn’t quite ready to tell us about it yet. According to a report by Motor1, Audi made an announcement on LinkedIn regarding the upcoming RS 5. They let out of the bag that the new RS 5 is going to be a plug-in hybrid. They also announced a new entry level EV for 2026. The announcements were quickly removed by Audi, but we already got the scoop.
The LinkedIn post didn’t contain many details but considering the post was made, even if in error, we must assume that the formal announcement will be coming soon. The LinkedIn post stated: “The new Audi RS 5 is also nearing its debut and will be our first performance plug-in hybrid. Furthermore, we will unveil a new electric entry model. Stay tuned to our channels so you don’t miss any news.”
Let’s start with the RS 5 first. The one thing we know for certain at this point is that it will be the first Audi RS to get a plug-in hybrid powertrain. What we don’t know is what combustion engine the new RS 5 will get. We suspect that it will be the 2.9L twin-turbo V6. The electrification of the RS 5 will no doubt add weight. But it should also add a nice helping of power. We would be surprised if the RS 5 made less than 500 horsepower and as much as 600 is in the cards.
We are expecting the RS 5 to come in a sedan body style only, and maybe a Sportback. But no coupe or convertible RS 5 is on the horizon. Bummer, but plans can change so you never know.
Now, what is that new electric entry model all about? Last year we spotted what appeared to be an Audi A2/Q2 e-tron test mule. Details are few at this point, but it will ride on the modular electric drive (MEB) Entry Platform. Will we even get this vehicle here in the U.S.? That remains to be seen.
Keep an eye out for an official announcement from Audi soon since the cat is now out of the bag. We will share the details with you as soon as we get them.
