Words: Steve Johnson

Audi aficionados, this is a special issue of Auction Watch! Since this auction ends the afternoon of the normal weekly issue I thought it was worth getting your attention today to give you more time to consider making a special purchase. As we anticipate Audi taking to the track in Formula 1 this year, perhaps you’d like to get your children or grandchildren in the spirit with this very cool way to get some exercise and look great at the same time. They could do just that in this Auto Union Type C Pedal Car made by Audi in 2008. This Bring a Trailer no reserve auction ends 01.29.2026 at 2:16 PM EST.

The only other Type C Pedal Car we had on Auction Watch was in mid-August 2024, chassis #17, and it sold for an amazing $28,253. Now on offer is chassis #356 of the 999 examples produced by Audi to commemorate Auto Union’s Type C Grand Prix car. The racecar in which Bernd Rosemeyer won the 1936 European Championship which you’ll be reading about in the next two issues of quattro Magazine. The aluminum bodywork is silver and carries race #5 which was used twice during the 1937 season, first by H.P. Mueller at the Eifelrennen and then by Rosemeyer who won the final race of the season, the Donington Park Grand Prix in England.

The interior can hold a driver up to 4’4” tall on its brown leather seat. It’s about 82” long, 38” wide, and 28” tall. The drivetrain is a drive chain and 7-speed internal geared hub with drive to the rear wheels via the foot pedals.

Please read more details on this 1:2 replica in the listing and go through the comment section as well. To understand the listing’s first comment you need to know who designed the Auto Union series of Grand Prix racecars in the 1930s and what car model he went on to design later in his career. See quattro Magazine issue Q4_2024, page 58, if you don’t already know the answer. Be sure to click on the smaller pictures for better viewing. Thanks for reading!
