Audi A6L e-tron Spied Testing

Another car caught during Audi’s winter test session is what appears to be the A6L e-tron. Long-wheelbase versions of established Audi models have been a part of Audi China’s playbook for years, so the existence of this car was likely a foregone conclusion. Even still, it’s interesting to see it in the camo-covered metal.

Though it’s seen testing here in northern Sweden, the nature of the Chinese market and its importation rules and conditions suggests this car will be produced in China as part of the brand’s attempt to shore up sales there. Over the last several years, western car manufacturers’ sales have slumped as highly competitive and mostly electric domestic newcomers emerge. Audi needs to bolster its presence if it’s to maintain its volumes, and key products focused on China such as this one are integral to that.

Visually, the A6L appears to follow the “L for China” playbook of other Audi models. While the full production Q6L does bear some visual differences over short-wheelbase models, these differences are more-often-than-not quite subtle if noticeable at all beyond the longer rear door and slightly extended proportions. In some ways, it’s kind of funny and interesting this car would have such extreme camouflage given an undisguised car wearing production A6 e-tron nose and tail might not even be recognized in traffic thanks to the regular A6 e-tron’s reveal months ago.
