ABT Sportsline wants to make sure the Audi RS 7 gets the respect it deserves. The longtime Audi tuner has created a one-off RS 7 called the RS7 Legacy Edition – 1 of 1 GRIZZLY. It transforms Audi’s already seriously quick four-door coupe into a 760-horsepower monster. It arrives as the future of the traditional combustion-powered RS 7 looks increasingly uncertain with the A7 and S7 already dead.

The standard RS 7 Performance isn’t exactly lacking in power. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 produces 621 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. No official acceleration figures have been announced for the GRIZZLY, although a stock RS 7 Performance is already capable of reaching 60 mph in the low-three-second range.

This also isn’t ABT’s first attempt at creating an even more ridiculous RS 7. Its existing RS7 Legacy Edition boosts horsepower using upgraded turbochargers, intercoolers, and ABT Engine Control. ABT has even offered a 1,000-hp version utilizing its water-ethanol injection system.

GRIZZLY takes a somewhat different approach. Rather than covering the RS 7 in outrageous aerodynamic additions, ABT has kept the exterior surprisingly restrained. The car is finished in Slate Grey with Shadow Blue accents, complemented by gold wheels and strategically placed carbon-fiber components. There are subtle changes to the bumpers, but nothing that immediately screams that this is a 760-hp one-off.

Inside, ABT has added plenty of special touches, including additional carbon fiber, Alcantara, an embossed ABT logo in the headliner, and a starlight headliner. The overall result is appropriately special without abandoning the understated character that has always been part of the RS 7’s appeal.

The RS 7 has always occupied an unusual place in Audi’s lineup. It combines the comfort and practicality expected of a large luxury Audi with the kind of performance that can embarrass genuine sports cars. Yet it does all of that without looking like it’s desperately trying to attract attention.

ABT hasn’t announced a price for the one-off GRIZZLY, and it’s unclear whether the car is even available for purchase. Whatever ultimately happens to it, ABT has created a pretty compelling reminder of what makes the RS 7 special.
