ABT’s Audi Ur-quattro Restomod Triples the Power — And Sells Out in Hours

News from Car Throttle shares that ABT Sportsline—renowned for tuning some of Audi’s most potent machines—has unveiled a limited run of fully reimagined 1980s quattros, and every single one has already been claimed.

Using authentic Ur-quattro chassis as a foundation, ABT fused retro motorsport design with present-day performance. Under the hood is a 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine, likely borrowed from an RS 3, tuned to deliver a staggering 523 horsepower—nearly three times the output of the original. The body is reshaped in carbon-Kevlar with aggressive flares, a vented hood, and a rear wing that channels the legendary Sport quattro homologation special.

Inside, the car features bucket seats, bespoke interior options via ABT’s Individual Programme, and even an integrated roll cage hidden from view. Modern updates like anti-lock brakes help tame the added muscle, while the retention of original chassis numbers allows for historic vehicle registration in Germany.

For ABT CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt, this project is personal. His first major tuning project in the late 1980s was modifying a showroom Ur-quattro into a Sport quattro-style build—an experience that inspired this new interpretation. Unveiled privately at ABT’s “Friends of ABT” event, the first 25 units sold out within three hours. Five more were added to meet demand, but all 30 are now spoken for. With every unit already allocated, this exclusive revival of a motorsport icon has proven to be as desirable as it is powerful.
