For Audi enthusiasts, the five-cylinder engine is more than just a powerplant. It’s one of the brand’s defining characteristics, a direct link to the legendary Group B rally cars that helped establish Audi’s performance reputation. To celebrate both that iconic engine and its own 130th anniversary, ABT Sportsline has created one of the most extreme RS3 models ever built.

Called the ABT RS3 630, the special edition is limited to just 30 examples worldwide and serves as the second chapter in ABT’s three-part anniversary trilogy. More than a simple tuning package, the RS3 630 represents a comprehensive reengineering of Audi’s already impressive compact performance sedan.

Power Upgrades

At the heart of the transformation is a dramatic increase in output. ABT boosts the RS 3’s turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder from the factory 400 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque to an astonishing 630 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. (700 Nm). No street-legal factory Audi R8 ever made that much power. Yet it’s packaged in Audi’s compact all-wheel-drive performance machine.

Achieving those numbers required much more than a software tune. Along with a larger turbocharger, high-performance intercooler, and extensive engine upgrades, the RS3 630 introduces ABT’s innovative Indirect Water-Ethanol Injection (IWI) system. Rather than simply forcing more boost into the engine, the system injects a precisely controlled water-ethanol mixture ahead of the throttle body to cool the intake charge. The cooler, denser air allows the engine to produce significantly more power while maintaining consistent performance, even under sustained hard driving. According to ABT, the result is relentless acceleration all the way to a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph).

Styling Upgrades

The aggressive mechanical upgrades are matched by equally distinctive styling. A high-gloss carbon fiber aerodynamic package includes a redesigned front spoiler, front blades, and rear diffuser, each carrying subtle RS3 630 branding. Out back, four matte black exhaust tips measuring 95 mm in diameter announce the car’s presence with a soundtrack that does justice to Audi’s legendary five-cylinder.

Perhaps the most eye-catching feature is the set of 20-inch forged HR20 wheels finished in satin gold. The gold accents aren’t simply a design flourish—they commemorate ABT’s 130th anniversary and distinguish the RS3 630 from any other RS 3 on the road. Inside, anniversary-themed gold accents continue throughout the cabin, reinforcing the exclusivity of the limited-production model.

Handling Upgrades

Handling has also received significant attention. ABT engineers developed a fully adjustable coil-over suspension with independently tunable compression and rebound damping, complemented by upgraded anti-roll bars front and rear. The result promises sharper steering response, reduced body roll, and a chassis capable of making the most of all 630 horsepower.

One of the more unique touches is the integration of technology through the myABT smartphone app. The app not only displays engine data and vehicle information but also controls the IWI system, allowing owners to monitor system status and fluid levels while unlocking the engine’s full performance potential.

With just 30 examples destined for production, the ABT RS3 630 is far more than a high-performance special edition. It stands as a fitting tribute to one of Audi’s greatest engineering achievements and a reminder that, even in an increasingly electrified automotive world, the unmistakable sound and character of a turbocharged five-cylinder engine remain something truly special.
