Find of the Day: 1 of 333 Audi R8 GT Is Practically Untouched
This was it. The final goodbye to the beloved Audi R8. The 2023 R8 GT is the most powerful rear-drive Audi ever made. Sadly, you can no longer buy a brand-new Audi R8, but this 140-mile example listed on Cars & Bids is about as close as you can get.
Usually with our Find of the Day cars, we spend some time covering the flaws of the car being featured. Maybe it has an accident history, or the heated seats no longer work or there is curb rash on the wheels and some door dings. Well, Audi R8 GT #228 of 333 has no such issues. We will not be discussing any flaws, because this car has none. The odometer shows just 136 miles on it.
Overall Condition
Some commentors in the auction are calling out wear/creases on the seat bolsters. Heavily bolstered seats like what is installed in the R8 GT can show these wear/creases even after only a very few miles. It is very common. Google “Porsche seat bolster protector” to see what we mean. It is what it is and in no way should be held against this stunning R8 GT.
Now, for all the good stuff. The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 is a screamer and powerplants like this are quickly exiting the automotive landscape and are unlikely to ever return. Audi blessed the R8 GT with “Torque Rear” which is essentially a drift mode for those times when you are feeling extra frisky. The R8 GT is also equipped with loads of carbon fiber bits including a fixed rear wing, front diffuser and canards, and an element behind the rear wheels. Giant carbon-ceramic brakes will slow you down from any speed without fail.
About 150 of the 333 R8 GTs made it to the U.S., so you won’t be seeing a ton of them at your local cars and coffee. Of course, a rare and wonderful car like this won’t be cheap. The original MSRP was $253,290 and with several days left on the auction, bidding has already hit $235,000.
We have just one request for the new owner. Please drive this car. We get the appeal of treating this like a collectible work of art. But the real joy of the R8 GT is in the drive. Don’t keep this animal chained up and leave it to rot on its original tires. Drive it the way Audi intended the car to be driven. Bidding ends on Friday, March 27.
