Lawsuit Reveals That Audi Sees Decline in U.S. Sales in 2026

According to a report by Carscoops, Audi believes that U.S. sales will decrease by over 12 percent compared to 2025. However, Audi has not revealed this projection publicly. The news was revealed as part of a lawsuit that Audi is involved in.
As originally reported by Automotive News, Audi projected that it will sell 144,000 vehicles this year. That projection came to light thanks to a lawsuit filed against Audi by Luxury Autos of Smithtown in Long Island. The lawsuit claims that Audi unfairly disadvantaged its two dealerships through margin programs tied to sales performance. In the court filing related to the case, Audi stated that they expect U.S. sales to be around 144,000 vehicles in 2026.
In 2025, Audi sold 164,942 vehicles in the U.S. If they only sell 144,000 this year, that would be a drop of about 12.7 percent. In 2023, Audi sold 228,550 vehicles here. If sales drop to 144,000, that would be a decline of 37 percent in just three years. You don’t need to be a Warton Business School graduate to recognize that losing over a third of your sales is not ideal.
Although, as we have said before, there are reasons for optimism with Audi. There are a lot of highly anticipated new products in the pipeline, including the B10-generation RS 5. The Audi F1 team is poised to take the grid. A new President of Audi of America was just announced. And we are all eager to learn more about the Q9 and Concept C.
Automakers often go through ebbs and flows when it comes to sales. Audi has been selling cars in the U.S. for over 55 years and not every year has been a sales success. The brand needs to figure out how to deal with U.S. tariffs and changing demand for EVs, but Audi has faced challenges in the past and come out on top. They seem well positioned to do so again, even if 2026 is another down year.
