Petition Launched to Bring Audi RS 5 Avant to the U.S.

RS 5 Avant

The new Audi RS 5 was officially revealed last week, and it is a stunner. However, Audi fans here in the U.S. have a bit of a problem. The B10-generation RS 5 will only be offered in the sedan body style. The highly desirable RS 5 Avant will be reserved for those on the other side of the pond. American Audi enthusiasts are not going to take this slight lying down.

Nishant Pillai, a prominent figure in the Audi enthusiast community and the owner of a number of RS Avant models, has started a Change.org petition to bring the Audi RS 5 Avant to the U.S. Within the first four days, the petition has already collected over 1,300 signatures. Including ours.

Americans have long been denied spicy RS wagons from Audi dating back to the very first RS 2 Avant. We finally got the RS 6 Avant for the 2021 model year. That car has been a sales success for Audi and even as the current generation bows out, more people than ever have been ordering them. We have put our money where our mouth is and have proven that we like our high-performance Audi wagons.

Audi has committed to bringing the new RS 5 sedan to the U.S. The RS 5 Avant shares the same powertrain. That means that the powertrain has already cleared the homologation hurdle to be imported and sold here. Because Audi has not yet planned on bringing the B10-generation A5 Avant stateside (we get just the sedan), Audi would need to homologate the A5 / RS 5 Avant’s wagon body in order to sell it here. And that is where the petition comes in.

What Can We Do?

Enthusiasts need to show to Audi that we really want the RS 5 Avant. If we can prove the demand, that lowers the risk for Audi to homologate the car and have it brought over here. Audi needs to sell cars and as much as we want all the best from the Audi Sport line, it must make financial sense to Audi for them to make the move. The petition can help with that.

Why do we want the RS 5 Avant so bad? Besides the fact that fast wagons are just inherently cool. The new RS 5 looks fantastic, but you could argue that the Avant style looks even better. It is also more practical. The world already has enough SUVs. Some folks prefer the looks and driving dynamics of a wagon. Especially a wagon with 630 horsepower. The Avant also weighs a mere 33 pounds more than the sedan. In a vehicle that already weighs nearly 5,200 pounds, another 33 isn’t going to change the performance or overall driving dynamics by any noticeable amount.

If you want the RS 5 Avant here in America, click HERE and sign the petition. We can’t promise that Audi will listen, but it can’t hurt to show our interest and express our feelings. In the meantime, the B5 RS 4 Avant is now 25+ years old so you could always import one of those.
