Twin-Turbo Audi R8 From Underground Racing Sets New Quarter-Mile Record

News from Underground Racing shares that they recently broke the quarter-mile record for R8s with a road-going R8 owned by a gentleman called Sebastian. Gifted with a full interior, said R8 clocked a staggering 7.11 seconds at 218 miles an hour (351 kilometers an hour) on its first pass at the Rockingham Dragway. In the process, the owner ran a simply ridiculous 1.25 clicks in the first 60 feet (nearly 18.3 meters).

Equipped with drag radials, the heavily modified twin-turbo V10 bruiser pulled off those numbers despite a bit of wheel spin on the upshift to second gear. On the final run, Sebastian improved to 6.94 seconds at 218 miles per hour, giving us the first R8 in the sixes. Behind the wheel, Sebastian experienced a dizzying 2.4 Gs at launch.

Underground Racing and the owner were hopeful of cracking into the 6.8-second range at 225-something miles an hour, but alas, the 12-plate clutch setup couldn’t hold power in sixth and seventh gears. Pretty insane how the quarter-mile finish line was passed in seventh gear, for sure!
