Audi Takes Full Ownership of Sauber Motorsport
News from NextGen Auto confirms that Audi has taken full ownership of Sauber Motorsport, marking a major milestone in the brand’s journey toward its 2026 Formula 1 debut. This acquisition cements Audi’s commitment to competing at the pinnacle of motorsport.
“The complete takeover of Sauber Holding AG by Audi AG was completed as planned in January 2025,” a spokesman confirmed to Auto Motor und Sport.

Having initially acquired a 25% stake in Sauber in January 2023, Audi has now completed the acquisition process, securing 100% ownership of the renowned motorsport organization. The partnership unites Audi’s engineering excellence with Sauber’s decades-long expertise in Formula 1, setting the foundation for a competitive and sustainable F1 project.
However, late last year, Audi announced that it intends to sell a chunk of the team to Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund. It is believed that deal will involve the transfer of about 30 percent of the shares.

Sauber’s team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi is departing that role and will be replaced as team boss by former Red Bull team manager Jonathan Wheatley.
“Wheatley’s suspension period actually runs until July,” Auto Motor und Sport’s Tobias Gruner explained. “But in the background, talks are currently taking place with Red Bull to enable him to start work earlier.”
Stay tuned for more updates as Audi prepares for their monumental step into the world of Formula 1.
