Spied: Next-Gen C9 Audi A7 Avant / allroad Test Mule

Our spy photographers sent over these photos this week of an Audi test mule based on what’s believed to be the upcoming A7 that is set to replace the internal combustion A6 and A7 models going forward. This one’s a long roof, that may be an Avant or possibly an allroad as identified by the photographers.

Note the flares on the fenders, which likely confirm the allroad status as true. Paired with unique bumper, side sills and rear bumper for more of an off-road look, this is how the C7 A6 allroad is expected to arrive.

The A7 is expected sometime in 2025, and the fully sorted production details on this mule, unlike previous mules with hacked-together fender flares, suggests we’re getting close. More interesting, if this is the allroad, is that this would mean the A7 allroad will likely bow alongside or in near term to other initial A7 and S7 body styles. That’s a departure from the new A5 and A6 e-tron that are already on the market with Avant variants though no allroad of either has been seen.

Why is an allroad model so relevant? Based on previous market decisions, an allroad variant is the best bet for seeing an Avant body style come to North America. Though we don’t have A4 or A6 Avants, we do have A4 and A6 allroads, and the presence of either make the business case including federalization costs for RS Avant variants more doable.
