2024 Carolinas Coastal Tour
Crystal Coast – NC:
By: Jeff Roberts
The Audi Club Carolinas embarked on this year’s Coastal Tour from March 22-24, 2024, as 49 enthusiasts, driving 27 cars, gathered from across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Florida. We encouraged our members to bring their Audi or their SUVs for this family- friendly event. The adventure began in the historic town of New Bern, North Carolina, where sunny skies greeted us at the iconic Tryon Palace.
Day 1: Exploring New Bern
Our first day was filled with exploration and camaraderie. We toured the magnificent Tryon Palace, immersing ourselves in the rich history and grandeur of this colonial landmark. After a delightful lunch in downtown New Bern, we regrouped for a car photo session by the vibrant New Bern Wall Mural, capturing memories against the backdrop of local artistry.
Our journey continued to Union Point Park, where we posed for group photos alongside our cars, framed by the serene beauty of the Neuse River. As the day drew to a close, we embarked on a dynamic 26-mile cruise on the coastal back roads to the car ferry at Minnesott Beach, relishing the coastal breeze and scenic river views before the forecasted rain arrived. The day concluded with a Southern Barbecue dinner at our host hotel, the Hilton- DoubleTree in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina.

Day 2: Rainy Setbacks and Coastal Charms
Despite facing heavy wind and rain, our spirits remained undampened on day two. We modified our plans and sought shelter at the Maritime Museum in Beaufort, North Carolina, delving into the maritime heritage of the coastal region. A leisurely lunch along the picturesque riverwalk provided a welcome respite from the inclement weather.
As the skies cleared, we seized the opportunity to drive out on US 70 East and explore the natural wonders of the Cape Lookout National Seashore on Harker’s Island. The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum offered fascinating insights into the area’s ecological diversity. Our evening was filled with warmth and camaraderie as we gathered for a Low Country Seafood Boil, celebrating our shared passion for cars and community. The night culminated in a prize raffle, silent auction, and a charity donation with proceeds benefiting the Meals-On-Wheels program for Craven County.

Day 3: Sunshine and Serenity
On our final day, the sun finally emerged on the Crystal Coast, casting a golden glow over our coastal adventure. We savored a group brunch before embarking on our last drives together. A short drive along highway NC 58 to Fort Macon State Park provided a glimpse into the area’s military history, followed by a scenic beach cruise to Pine Knoll Shores to explore the wonders of the NC Aquarium.
As we bid farewell to the coastal beauty that had captivated us for three memorable days, we reflected on the bonds forged and memories shared. The Carolinas Coastal Tour was more than just a journey—it was a celebration of friendship, exploration, and the enduring allure of the open road for our Audi enthusiasts.
