Updated “B9.5” Audi Q5 Spied Testing

Audi is in the midst of a mid-lifecycle freshening of its entire B-segment lineup, a mid-lifecycle freshening of the B9 that began in May with the Audi A4/S4/allroad ,with updated A5/S5, Q5/SQ5 and RS variants to follow. We’ve been seeing A5 variant test mules now for a while, and today we’ve gotten some great pics of the updated Q5 out testing… and complete with interior shots.

The B-segment is the heart of the Audi range, where the brand sells its greatest volumes in most markets. Thus, the shift form B9 to “B9.5” (enthusiast speak for the facelift versions) is an important shift for Audi. Key differences are expected to come over wholesale from what we know of the B9.5 A4. This includes MMI touch functionality to the large central screen, mild hybrid drivetrain availability and other engine upgrades. It’s worth revisiting the A4/S4 release details for a refresher if you want an in-depth hint about what you can expect from the Q5 and SQ5.

Beyond that, changes to the exterior can largely be seen here in these images. Note the honeycomb rille, and fascia with more Lichte-era facial features. To our eye, this looks like a non S-line lower-spec variant. With the turn signal active in some shots, you can get a hint at the updated light signature… though whether that’s a base headlight or a higher-spec LED headlight remains to be seen. Most Audi models feature different signatures depending on headlight tech available at the chosen equipment levels.
