This gathering of vendors in Seaside, CA is a great way to begin the week. Like so many Monterey activities, Audi is a bit of a niche topic at Automobilia, but if you take your time and dig through, you’ll find some gems. Most notable to us this year included a German market 1984 line-wide catalogue including Sport quattro, out-of-print Horch brand book, out-of-print Audi Sport customer racing yearbooks, and several Sport quattro ite...

A show celebrating the “hooptie”-heavy 24 Hours of LEMONS racing series, this gathering in a Seaside, CA park shares off of the peculiar flavor of the racing series in car show format. Not surprisingly, series entrants are regulars here but simply being obscure will net you a spot on the lawn as evidenced by the second showing of that Auto Union 1000 SP that turned up at Legends of the Autobahn.
Another unique aspect of this...

A very different flavor than other Monterey events, “Exotics” is set up for a wanton show of wealth in a different form – mainly modern exotics, often modified and driven by super car rallyists. Throw in ample “carparazzi” photographers and kids simply seeking flaming-belching exhaust snaps for Instagram, and it becomes quickly apparent how diverse the world of expensive automobiles can be.
Exotics moved from Monterey...

If Quail represents the factory side of the brand, Legends is the club and enthusiast focus. For Monterey Car Week, it represents a more approachable concours not just to attend, but also participate. That’s not just lip service. Audi-owner winners ranged from a rare Auto Union 1000 SP to a more contemporary and exotic R8 plus, and even a more daily driven Q5.
Legends is run in part by Audi Club, BMW Car Club of America, and M...

If there is a keystone to Monterey Car Week, then that must be the Pebble Beach Concours. This iconic golf club opens its greens promptly at sunrise for the most ardent and motivated (some say spiritual) - the aptly dubbed “Dawn Patrol”. This mix witnesses these most incredible cars apparitionally appearing out of the morning marine layer fog before it burns off and ushers in the sizable crowds who flock to the event throughout the...

Held at the legendary Laguna Seca raceway, the “Monterey Historics” is the event for motorsports enthusiasts. It is a celebration of all things racing, and that’s obvious from walking the paddock or spotting what’s on track. Many vendors line the vendor row, while other special displays like Bring A Trailer’s “Family Reunion” can also be found on the Laguna Seca’s grounds.

Is it a “crossover” or an “SUV”? I was in the weeds in more ways than one with an Audi of America product planner in remote and frigid Colorado philosophizing over just what the new Audi Q8 is. I’d called it a “crossover”. He argued “SUV”.
From his perspective, an SUV is a more attractive term... at least in the American market. SUV in...

Let’s just lay this out there because it needs to be said. André Lotterer needs to stay in his lane.
At the age of 37, the guy’s logged three Le Mans wins as an Audi Sport factory driver, switched to Porsche’s 919 program when Audi shuttered their LMP program, and today runs one of the top seats in Formula E - in addition to moonlighting for the Rebellion L...

When did you first notice a fast Audi? Depending on your age, I’d wager that it was unlikely of you to notice one on an American road unless you’re a Millennial (Gen-Y) or Gen-Z. The simple fact is Audi did not really proliferate in North America as a known and sought-after brand until the arr...

Has Audi’s decade-long relationship with Tony Stark paid off?
Suicidal Tendencies’ Institutionalized is blaring as Tony Stark works on his ’32 Ford in his garage. Pepper Potts unlocks the workshop door, simultaneously cutting the music, hounding Stark to get going. As he walks to the rear of the shop in the far corner, first in line from the exit ramp, sits a silver coupe with black...

In what has to be the most anticipated movie in years, Avengers: Endgame is finally here. I have an unpopular confession to make: I am not a superhero fan...at all. I get the Marvel & DC Comics universes mixed up all the time much to the dismay of my teen sons. I am, however, a big Audi fan. The only reason I watched Iron Man was to see the R8 (which was new at the time).
And then I saw Iron Man 2...
And then I sa...

The latest issue of quattro Magazine (Q2_2019) is on its way to Audi Club members. In it, they'll find an article about a B5 RS 4 Avant entitled Rennsport + Avant = Perfection. I proofread quattro which means reading every issue cover to cover...several several times. So imagine my surprise when this Avant showed up on Bring A Trailer.
I recognized it even before I knew what I was looking at. I won't spoil the article before you have a chance ...

The third episode of our podcast Unfair Advantage is now available on iTunes. In this episode, I (Bill Cho) sit down with George Achorn and talk about his background in the Audi space, plus a look at the redesign of quattro Magazine and a preview of the upcoming Q2 2019 issue due out very soon.
For those who don’t know George, google him but I’ll give you a brief rundown here anyway. At a very young age, George was into cars and had already been bitten by the modification bug. He foun...

Maybe it’s tenor of the Italian language. It almost sounds poetic… maybe as if by destiny…when a guy with the last name “Avantaggio” builds the ultimate OEM plus B8 A4 Avant. You see, the Italian suffix aggio is equivalent to the English age, indicating action but perhaps with a more stylish flair. The translation, “Avantage” then seems a...

When one thinks of Group B heroes, visions of an Audi Sport quattro hurtling over jumps come to mind. Certainly less limelight typically goes to the vehicles that helped make those wins happen… commercial vehicles from Audi parent Volkswagen like its LT35 or T3 transporter range. These trucks did everything from spare parts She...
