Audi rolled out the C3 in 1982 and with it, the true Audi Avant was born. Audi had called a C2 model an Avant but in actuality, it was a 5-door hatchback. Avants have since captured the fancy of enthusiasts and Avants like this 1991 200 Avant 20v quattro set the stage. Here's the ad:

The Audi V8...yes there was a model just called the Audi V8. Built between 1988 and 1993, this was Audi's flagship and the 1st one to have a V8. They ran in DTM and won back-to-back driver's titles in 1990 and 1991 with Hans-Joachim Stuck and Frank Biela. There were 2 V8s available in the D1: the 3.6L and the more familiar 4.2L. This one is a 3.6 and is a virtual time capsule. Here's the ad:

2021 saw the return of the A6 Avant in allroad form and also the arrival of the RS 6 Avant. That was a great year when there were 3 Avant models to choose from. Back in 2010, there were also 3 Avant models: A4 Avant, A3 hatchback (which to some is not an Avant but for the purpose of this post, it will count), and the A6 Avant. This example of one of those A6 Avants. Here's the ad:

One word...whoa. I drove a 1985 Audi 4000S quattro Brock Yates Cannonball edition in this year's One Lap of America (read about it in Q3 2022 quattro Magazine) and we pretty much came in dead last (at least the events I drove in). However, if I had this Audi, the results may have been different. Here's the ad (translated from German):

Back in 2015, Audi of America rolled out what are affectionally known as the 'Skittles' S3. These were a batch of 25 cars equally split between 5 colors: Vegas Yellow, Viper Green, Sepang Blue, Misano Red, and Glut Orange. Each car got an Audi exclusive leather package with contrast stitching including covered door armrests and knee pads, Audi exclusive leather controls with contrast stitching includi...

Ok...I can already hear people saying Why are you featuring a 19 year old S8 with 256,000 miles?!? It's not even a manual transmission swap! I will counter that by saying yes, this is an older Audi with over a quarter million miles but I have two reasons. First, look at that interior- that burgundy interior is one of the best Audi has done. The second? The owner, Tom. Tom is, what you could say, meticulo...

Now I know I've said this before...the Pacific Northwest must be a time warp where old(er) German cars stay in pristine condition and I mean pristine. From rust-free exteriors to crack-free dashboards, most of the 80s/90s German cars coming out of the PNW look brand new. This 1986 Audi 4000 CS quattro is a prime example. Most 4000s were driven hard and put away wet where time and rus...

The Audi R8. These days when you mention 'Audi R8', people immediately think V10 but back in the mid-2000s, it meant a much anticipated Audi supercar...with a V8. A lot of people scoff at the R8 V8 but the R8 was a game changer. Heck, even Tony Stark drove one. Combine that sonorous 4.2 V8 with the snick-snick of a manual and you have perfection.
This Phantom Black beauty has all those and then some. Her...

When the B6 S4 burst onto the scene, it was the first time a V8 was stuffed into the B-chassis. Enthusiasts were enamored with the throaty sounds coming out of the dual exhaust. We were fortunate enough to get a sedan, a wagon (Avant), and a convertible version. The 4.2 V8 was carried over to the B7 generation but then, it was gone. This one is a B6 S4 sedan in what some people would say is the ul...

For the longest time, the only allroad in the States was the C5 A6 allroad. It was a time when Audi had plenty of Avant offerings such as the S4 Avant, A4 Avant, A6 Avant. Then these started to disappear with the only Avant offered for awhile being the B8.5 A4 allroad. Then the C8 RS 6 Avant showed up as well as its less powerful sister, the A6 allroad. There's noting quite like the gnarly snarl of an Audi 4.2 V8 and combined with a manual, it's a dream. We in the States didn't get the B5 RS 4 so when the B7 showed up, it was well received. Most (ok...maybe some including me) would have preferred the Avant but little did we know that this would be the only RS 4 to be imported to the States, We longingly looked across the pond as enthusiasts rompe...
